An Introduction to Verbal Behavior Therapy

LorRainne Jones is a licensed speech language pathologist with a Ph.D. in education. She is the author of The Source for Expressive Language Delay and has over 30 years experience working with children and adults with autism. As coordinator for Curriculum, Research, and Training at a school district in Michigan, Dr. Jones was the editor of a comprehensive ABA based curriculum for children with autism and other developmental disabilities. Later, as the clinical coordinator of the Language and Cognitive Development Program at the University of South Florida, Dr. Jones was responsible for training staff and parents in the use of an intervention program, later called Verbal Behavior Therapy, which utilized ABA principles to help nonverbal children, including children with autism, rapidly acquire speech and cognitive skills. Presently, Dr Jones is director of Kid Pro Therapy Services in Tampa and specializes in teaching speech to nonverbal children with autism or who are at risk for a diagnosis of autism.
